Founded in May 2019 with the aim to closing both the data divide and attainment gap in Scotland. We are working to change the face of Scotland’s future talent pool by increasing the representation of the disadvatanged groups in the data economy.
We introduce young people to data literacy and analytics skills, provide critical scaffolding for them which are a prerequisite for numeracy, problem solving, critical thinking and socio-emotional skills. We empower adults to be well-versed in the current and future data landscape.

My experiences of the DataKirk as a data enthusiast, volunteer and mentor has been a positive one. My progression route was made possible by the learning, knowledge and nurturing environment from the organisation. They worked with me to identify me strengths and how my skills could be used in my personal life, in my work and for my community. .

I joined the DataKirk Community in 2019 when I enrolled in the Introduction to Data Visualisation training. This training gave me an understanding of how of data visualisation can be biased and manipulated to suit a purpose. The training was a reminder of being reflective of information given before us. As a result of the training, I'm more aware and question any data before me.

The DataKirk community is like a village for me as I get supported, nurtured and encouraged to get awareness of data careers and how to progess from High School to positive destination. With the support of the DataKirk village, I now have a better understanding of apprenticeship programme in the UK. Before completing my high school I was offered an apprenticeship programme which was made possible by the DataKirk and Heart of Midlothian Collaboration. Thanks.

I enrolled at DataKirk on the Introduction to Data Science for Business in 2021. I was given the opportunity to partake in the DataKirk & Public Health Scotland Mentoring programme. I used the learning from the mentoring to enhance my CV, interview skills and employability. I am now gainfully employed. I want to appreciate Datakirk for this opportunity, the information that I have been previledged to get from Tony has really been overwhelming. I am more than grateful.

I participated at the DataKirk and was selected to join the DataFest2020 Competition team of DataKirk. Our team mentor, Hettie empowered us on how to carry out data gathering for our competition and further developed teamwork, and better understanding of the importance of data for solving societal problems such as wildlife. The experience of training at the DataKirk and participation at the DataFest2020 STEM competition has given me insight of the STEM careers ahead of me and the importance of continuing to develop the STEM skills.

It has been 8 months since I started this role and an opportunity came up to apply for a more senior and technical position as a Major Investigation Manager which initially felt reluctant to apply for due to ongoing redundancies in the bank which makes the role highly competitive, also due to my experience with job applications. However I applied and was invited for the interview. To my greatest surprise, I was offered the role and out of 3 other candidates I was told my performance was the best.
